Every year, Giving Tuesday reminds us that generosity can change the world one household at a time. At Gavin/Solmonese, we’re focusing this year on an organization that we’ve worked with since our inception: PathWays PA Center for Families, a residential shelter that supports mothers and children rebuilding their lives after homelessness, trauma, or involvement with the child welfare system.

The Center for Families isn’t just a roof overhead. It’s a place where families rediscover stability, safety, and a sense of possibility. Right now, this amazing place that helps mothers and families rebuild their lives is in desperate need of a new kitchen! We are supporting PathWays’ capital campaign for this kitchen, and we invite you to join us. Your dollars will go into the heart of this home and show up in every meal prepared in the kitchen for mothers and children recovering from abuse and trauma.

What the Center for Families Does—and Why It Matters

The shelter provides transitional housing for mothers and their children, but housing is only the beginning. PathWays wraps each family in support, from parenting coaching to employment training to securing long-term housing. The goal is simple but profound: help families become strong, stable, and self-sufficient. The work is best understood through the voices of the women who walk through its doors.

“My kids slept through the night for the first time in months.”

One mother arrived after leaving a dangerous home situation. Her children had been sleeping in the back seat of her car. On their first night at PathWays, staff helped the kids pick out pajamas from the donations closet, choose books for bedtime, and settle into beds of their own.

“They didn’t wake up once,” she told a staff member the next morning. “It was the first time I saw them breathe easy.”

“I finally felt like someone believed in me.”

Another mom came to the shelter with a newborn and no family support. A PathWays case manager helped her apply for childcare, enroll in job-skills training, and set a realistic plan for independence. Today she has full-time work, stable housing, and a safe environment for her baby to grow up in.

How You Can Help This Giving Tuesday

The Center for Families relies on community support to provide the essentials that make these stories possible—warm beds, stocked pantries, tutoring supplies, transportation support, and emergency assistance.

On this Giving Tuesday, you can help by:

  1. Donating to the capital campaign to build a new kitchen → Click here to give
  2. Sharing the mission with friends, clients, colleagues
  3. Supporting a family directly, by sponsoring a room or helping fund childcare, job-training hours, or educational materials

Every dollar helps a mother reclaim stability and gives her children a chance at a brighter future.

This Giving Tuesday, we invite you to join Gavin/Solmonese in standing with PathWays PA and the Center for Families. Hope has an address—and with your support, more families will find their way there.
