Ted Gavin Appointed to Board of Directors of the Steamship Authority

Press Release March 5, 2026

Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts — March 5, 2026 — Longtime Chilmark, MA resident Ted Gavin, Gavin/Solmonese Managing Director and Founding Partner, has been appointed to the Woods Hole, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket Steamship Authority, the public ferry system that provides essential transportation between Cape Cod and the islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket.

Gavin brings more than three decades of experience advising organizations navigating complex financial, operational, and governance challenges. A nationally recognized restructuring professional, he has served as an advisor, expert witness, and strategic consultant in some of the country’s most complicated corporate restructurings, bankruptcies, and distressed situations. His work focuses on helping institutions stabilize operations, evaluate strategic options, and build durable financial and governance structures during periods of uncertainty.

The Steamship Authority operates the primary year-round transportation link connecting the islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket with mainland Massachusetts. As one of the nation’s largest ferry systems, the Steamship Authority manages a complex public enterprise that must balance operational reliability, capital investment, financial discipline, and the needs of multiple port communities.

Gavin’s appointment brings deep experience in navigating precisely those kinds of complex operational and financial environments.

“Public infrastructure organizations face the same pressures as private enterprises — long-term capital needs, evolving operational demands, and the need for strong governance,” said Gavin. “The Steamship Authority is a vital transportation system for the Islands, and I’m honored to be able to contribute my experience in financial strategy, restructuring, and organizational governance to help ensure its long-term stability and effectiveness.”

Throughout his career, Gavin has helped boards, management teams, and stakeholders address difficult financial realities while preserving long-term value. His advisory work frequently focuses on organizations operating in highly scrutinized environments where financial transparency, disciplined decision-making, and clear governance are essential.

In addition to his advisory practice, Gavin has served as a board member and strategic advisor to a range of nonprofit and civic institutions. His appointment reflects the Authority’s continued focus on financial discipline, operational resilience, and responsible stewardship of the transportation system relied upon by island residents, businesses, and visitors alike.
