With the season over, my family can begin our summer together, trading in long car rides to baseball games for time at the Jersey Shore!
Those who know me won’t be surprised to hear that, as a travel baseball parent, the first part of my summer was totally consumed by my son’s games. For the fifth year in a row, I was the assistant coach for Mario’s team, Mid-Atlantic Show. We were rained out a couple times but, every weekend since March, we’ve had fun playing in Nashville, Tenn.; Salisbury, Md.; Staten Island, N.Y.; Reading, Pa.; and Jackson, N.J., to name a few.
Our team did well, even if Nashville didn’t go quite as planned—we lost in the semifinals. You can see by their faces that it was a scorcher. But, like all things in life, there was a bonus in that the boys saw Nashville’s Lower Broadway.
Overall, Mario’s team had a successful season, winning four tournaments and thirty-six games. Next up for the team is the “big field” as well as some high school camps. Can you believe my son is entering eighth grade this fall—how did that happen? Here’s this year’s team photo from Ripken Baseball in Aberdeen, Md. Mario is in the front row on the far left, and I’m the coach on the far right.
